I actually really like the way the SM looks without them. Looks more sporting somehow. Less like it's layed back and suited only to gliding along.

The SM has a slightly more conventional design than most pre-mid 90s Citroëns, in terms of proportions.
The DS, in comparison, looks like a drag bike.
